It is with both sadness and excitement that I share news of a leadership transition at Camp Koinonia. I have recently accepted the role of Executive Director at Covenant Hills Camp in Otisville, MI. Since 2018, my wife and I have had the incredible privilege of serving together at Camp Koinonia, and we are thrilled that she will be joining me in a full-time role at Covenant Hills.
Over these past years, Camp Koinonia has been more than a job—it has been our home. Together, we’ve welcomed thousands of visitors, partnered with dozens of congregations and organizations, and witnessed remarkable growth in our programs and community. We've celebrated countless milestones, from the development of new initiatives like day camps, homeschool programming, and outdoor education to the joy of watching children and families play, worship, and connect with God.
Our time here has been marked by challenges and success. We navigated difficult financial hurdles during the pandemic and, more recently, saw incredible growth, including the addition of several full-time team members and site enhancements.
Raising our children here has been the adventure of a lifetime. This camp was their backyard, their playground, and their place to make new friends. When we shared the news of our move, our oldest couldn’t understand why we would want to live anywhere else.
I owe so much to Camp Koinonia. The board of directors, with their mentorship and support, have shaped my ministry and professional journey. They challenged me to lead with integrity, met my mistakes with love and guidance, and inspired the direction we took together. The staff and volunteers have been my partners and teachers, helping me grow into the leader I am today.
As we prepare for this transition, I am confident that God has great plans for Camp Koinonia. The incredible team here will continue to build on the foundation we’ve laid together, and I am excited to see what the future holds for this special place. God is so good.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Camp Koinonia will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we are forever grateful for the memories, lessons, and relationships we’ve built here.
Matthew 6: 33-34 Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
In the interim, the camp board will be sharing the succession plan that will detail the interim director as well as a plan to recruit our next Executive Director. In the meantime please pray for the Jackie, Kevin, Miles, Theo, June and Mozart as they travel east on their new journeys. Kevin & Jackie’s last day at camp will be March 10, 2025.
